At the beginning of August, I made a bit of a last-minute decision that turned out to be exactly what I needed—I booked a trip to Lisbon for a week with a friend. I am currently going through a period of transition, switching careers, and most of my free time I spend it working on my coaching business. It’s funny how we get caught up in our goals, always pushing forward, without realizing that sometimes what we need the most is to just stop.
Lisbon wasn’t on my original plan, but as soon as I landed and felt the warm sun on my skin, I knew I’d made the right call. For seven days, I let myself slow down. I spent time with a good friend, sharing laughs, indulging in incredible food, and simply enjoying the many attractions the city has to offer. We took a tour in the city, we went to the beach in Cascais and Carcavelos, we visited Belem and also the charming village of Sintra. It felt so freeing to leave my laptop behind and embrace the present moment, surrounded by the vibrant streets of the city.
When I came back, I found myself reflecting on that decision. If I hadn’t gone, I would have stayed at home, working non-stop, glued to my routine. Instead, I gave myself the gift of a reset. And here’s the thing—sometimes, taking a break isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. We need to step away to recharge our batteries, to clear our minds, and to regain perspective. In Lisbon, I realized how important it is to make space for joy, even in the busiest of times.
So, this is a little reminder: don’t underestimate the power of pressing pause. It’s not about escaping responsibilities; it’s about making sure you have the energy and clarity to handle them in the best way possible. I came back feeling more energized, focused, and grateful for the time I took off—and, of course, for the sunshine and laughter along the way.
If you’ve been feeling the weight of your to-do list, maybe it’s time to ask yourself: when was the last time you recharged?
Until the next adventure, Teresa.
